Water Powered Phone

Samsung is coming out with a new phone that will be powered by water.  Soon enough, you will be able to recharge your phone by simply refilling it with water.  Of course, this technology is not perfect yet but it is headed that way.  The hydrogen battery does not last all that long, but simply refilling it with water is not all that difficult.  The link is attached above to look more into this technology that was first unveiled in 2007 in Korea.  Soon enough, they will have technologies for phones that manages to recharge itself through different means that requires even less from the user.

Auto-Correcting Technology

Will there ever be an almighty auto-correcting technology?  Recently my printer has been getting jammed a lot.  Almost every time I print something, my printer finds a way to jam itself.  Will there ever be a printer that unjams itself and makes an accurate correction to avoid doing that in the future.  Some technologies are headed in this direction right now.  Take for example Windows, which has made it simpler to find errors and correct them quickly.  With the new Windows 7, one can simply plug a device in and the computer will seek out the most up-to-date drive and instantly download it.  Thus far, I have not had any issues with it.  With Windows XP, it was more of a challenge to seek out the necessary driver and download it.  There were always questions as to whether or not it was the most up-to-date one or if it was the correct driver.  Windows 7 automatically eliminates this issue.  Technology is heading more and more in the direction of user friendliness.  Soon enough things will become more and more efficient to the point that we simply have to think a task up and the computer will take care of it for us. 

New this Week

Net gear is now coming out with something to allow us to connect televisions wireless.  What will this bring in the future for technology.  It may be simpler to connect televisions in classroom settings or business settings.  In turn we may be able to connect the internet in more locations as well.  The options that this will provide us with is almost uncountable.  The sky is the limit. 

Sure, you can watch television on your phone but you can not connect externally wireless.  This new technology that net gear is coming out is going to change the availability of technology as we know it.  Any thoughts as to how other technologies might be affected by this?

Christmas and Tech

What will they think of next?  Furby, tickle-me elmo...  All big hits for the Christmas holiday for consumers to buy.  Whats next?  Technologies are becoming more and more advanced.  They are also becoming cheaper and cheaper.  Apple is seemingly beginning to take over the market by marketing common products that most have such as ipods.  Almost everyone has an ipod but does everyone have a green or blue one.  Surprisingly, people are now beginning to buy them more than once for means of fashion.  People will own multiple ipods for the means to be more fashionable.  This is the type of markets that companies such as apple are attacking.

     These companies create the need that you need to fill with their technologies and they aim to do it at Christmas time when everyone is willing to splurge a little bit more.  With people more and more willing to splurge at this time, this is the ideal time for a new technology to attempt to break into the market.  Extremely high priced gaming systems are coming out around this time because this is when people are willing to buy them. Everyone is willing to spend a little bit more in the merry season.  Moreover, everyone is willing to spend a little bit more on some technologies that others such as children or spouses want.

     What will be next though?  Twenty years from now will we be shopping for spaceships come Christmas.  Sounds foolish, but who knows?  I would never imagine that we would be shopping for 3-D gaming systems and television about 5 years ago.  Technology is advancing exponentially, and it is almost a task to try to keep up with it.  I don't know what is yet to come but I am looking forward to finding out.  We are on the brink of the technology age, and it is exciting to be here.

Military Tech

Back in the day, if you wanted to physically fight someone, you had to approach them in person and fight them in hand to hand combat.  The new technology from there was simple weaponry such as spears and bow and arrows.  Well we have come a long way since then.  Smart technology is now highly integrated into weaponry.  The new XM-25 is now being deployed, for example.  This is a new computerized grenade launcher.  What will be thought of next?  Is someone going to invent an iron man suit?  Will someone invent the cure, as it was invented in a clockwork orange, to stop others who are malicious from attacking others?  Who knows?  Obviously, technological advances are being made all around us.  The way we fight, communicate, and think is no longer the same way it used to be.  What if a technology was invented to tap into the minds of many and quell that certain part of the brain that drives us to fight.  Now that would be a revolutionary technology that would be truly beneficial to the human race.  Only time will tell.  With technology advancing the way it has been, anything is possible.

3D is becoming more realistic

Back in the J, 3D was a matter of science fiction.  3D was not all that realizable, but in our generation it will soon become the norm.  Seemingly everything is shifting to 3D.  First, you can see movies in 3D.  Then, you can buy 3D tv's and watch programming that was done in 3D.  Well whats next?  From an AD I saw in popular science magazine, they are coming out with a 3D camcorder.  You will soon be able to make home movies in 3D as well.  Interestingly enough, this was merely a science fiction concept not too long ago.  Movies such as "Minority Report" portray this science fiction 3D recordings at parts of the movie to express a futuristic feel to the society in the motion picture.  Apparently gaming systems are coming out from producers such as Nintendo that are intended for household use that are in 3D.  Soon enough, everything that can be in 3D will be in 3D.

The real question is "How far will we go?"  Technology is always pushing the limits of reality to become reality, but will there become a point when we can no longer tell the difference from true reality and this "illusion"?  I would imagine that the day we could not tell the difference is when reality becomes a reality that is much like the one in the movie "Total Recall."  In the movie, the main character is unable to differentiate whether or not he is living in reality or if he is dreaming.  Likewise, the "Matrix" portrays a similar idea.

I feel that technology will either never bring us this far or will not bring us this far in our lifetime.  Surely, the 3D television broadcasting looks more realistic than it previously did when broadcasting was done in black and white.  What the next step toward this realizable reality?   

Data Warehousing: Presemt and Future

     Not too long ago data was not all that easily accessible.  Paper copies of everything were available but not readily so.  Additionally, information could not be organized as readily to perform multiple uses.  With the simplicity of storing data through computer servers, this data can be easily managed and manipulated to be put to use.  With this new availability to companies to have a centralized area, such as a data warehouse, to upload and download files from to manipulate, the sky is the limit.  Anything can be shared with anyone at any time which is dire in this day.  This will also help to prevent digital Darwinism to occur to different companies.  Those who are on the cutting edge technologies today are the ones who make most advancements and grow quickest. 

     The name of the game is "staying ahead."  These data warehouses are a key instrument that almost all companies now have.  Without it, most companies would certainly perish.  This obviously depends on the type of business that the company is involved in; however, almost everyone is searching for ways to incorporate technology into their businesses for the sake that it will pan out for them in the grand scheme of things.  In the short run, this technology change may cause increased cost for the upgrade and money and time for training for this upgrade; however, these companies methods will become significantly more efficient.  This new found efficiency will intern help the company grow and blossom.   

Economy and Technology

The economy is obviously not doing well right now, but how is this affecting the IT part of the work place?  Many have adjusted work schedules to accommodate for the harsh times.  Some have move to working 4 days a week for 10 hours a day in order to save on gas.  Others have moved to working from home for this same reason as well.  Everyone needs to cut costs wherever they can find fit.  But does this mean more of a shift toward IT based solutions, or should it?  Virtual conferences already save millions of dollars that would be spent in travel and manages to accomplish pretty much the same thing. Could a virtual community be created for this same reason, to cut down on travel costs to and from work?  This may be where the future is looking; however, does this impose its own problems.  It seems that it may.  Much tends to be lost in translation whenever communication is not face to face.  It is tougher to explain ideas and ideas may be conveyed incorrectly.  Additionally, a part of the human aspect is removed from the process.  Long standing relationships will not be properly maintained or formed in the future. 


With the economy being as poor as it is, it may push us harder in this direction than we had previously thought.  This may be out of our hands.  Times are changing and we must adapt adequately or perish.  Of course, all aspects or the work environment affect the change toward a more IT based workplace, but is the economy driving us to this quicker or slowing us down?

Technology

     What will life be like 15 years from now?  Technology has already changed so much of the way in which society functions within the past 15 years; therefore, it is reasonable to say that it will change so much more over the next 15 years or so.  My family got our first computer approximately 15 years ago.  This gateway was incredibly slow, when compared to today's standards with minimal storage space.  The hard drive was merely a 6 Gb hard drive.  By today's standards that would be deemed as extremely poor.  Manufacturers now make flash drives that are capable of holding up to 32 Gb, ipods can be purchased with over 100 Gb of memory space.  Technology is changing, and it is doing so swiftly.  With these small changes comes alterations to life as we know it.  You can save mostly everything that is on your hard drive to a flash drive that can be carried with you on a key chain.  With this techno-revolution comes availability and ease around every corner.  This essentially allows for technology to grow at an exponential rate.  Who knows where technology will lead us next?  With the advances that are being made now it is merely a matter of coming up with the creative idea for a useful item.  The implementation for this item would most likely be fairly simple. 

     No one knows where technologies will eventually lead, but everyone has their theories.  The quicker society progresses in this trend, more and more out of science fiction movies become realities.  Whoever comes up with the next ipod or the next google will be set.  As I said, it is no longer a matter of having the capability to produce the next technology rather it is a matter of coming up with the idea for it.  And as always, the most useful, simple technologies fathomed are the ones that blossom the quickest and take the longest to become extinct.  Google is a simple idea with a simple means to use it, but is very helpful in many situations.  Thus, ideas like google will be around forever.  Seemingly, physical constraints of technology is no longer an issue today rather technology is limited by society's creativity...
